One Direction: 1D & 5SOS

The hottest tour 'Where We Are' by One Direction (1D) got a little much hotter with the news of 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) opening for their North America leg tour this year.

On the brink of international stardom, 5SOS is a pop-rock band from Australia consisting of four members, Luke, Michael, Calum and Ashton. Other than the similarity of building as fanatical and obsessive fan following as One Direction, there is no comparison between the two bands. Unlike One Direction, 5SOS didn't get their start on a TV show, but by distributing cover videos of other performers' songs on YouTube. They play instruments, their videos have racked up a Twitter following of over 2.3 million fans. They have recently released their first single 'She Looks So Perfect' and have supported One Direction on tours. The announcement of 5SOS opening for 1D has raised the excitement among fans.

Over the last three years, One Direction has proved to be the hottest band in the world, and continue to work furiously to maintain that position as long as possible. The demand for more shows keep getting higher, and with additional shows in Toronto, Philadelphia, Foxboro, Detroit, Chicago, Charlotte, New Jersey, and Rose Bowl in California, this tour could end up as the 6th highest grossing tour of all time, whereas, the 5SOS April tour is likely to gross less than half of what 1D will make for a single show. However, selecting 5SOS as an opening act will definitely add additional buss and demand to the tour and if the need be, with this pent-up demand for 5SOS, One Direction will have some more filling up any remaining seats.

It also offers good downside protection to One Direction and their promoters. Although it's unlikely but if One Direction's stars start to fade before beginning of the tour, they may very well have the next big thing waiting in the wings. It's going to be a big opportunity for 5SOS to get an even bigger audience and live experience! So buckle up fans, this is going to be the 'hottest' summer in a very long time!
